Video Recording – Update

Election Commission has decided to have video cameras in about 20000 polling booths to monitor the elections.

Rumours have been going around that Video cameras will capture the choice of the voters. However this is not true. Election Commission has confirmed that video camera will be positioned in a manner where the EVM will not be visible at all, so voters need not worry about parties getting to know about their vote.

Check out the camera positioning as prescribed by the Election Commission at this link – http://www.elections.tn.gov.in/Web_camera_Layout.ppt

But, If I opt for 49o, it will be known. How to ensure confidentiality for excercising this option ? Right from feb2004, there has been requests to include this in EVMs. Has this been accomplished ?
    thanks

Unfortunately 49O has still not been added in EVM. However I would suggest you vote for an independent candidate since any vote for an independent is vote against the political parties. It also ensures that your confidentiality is maintained while you vote. I believe it will take a Supreme Court Order to bring 49O in EVM, waiting for someone to file a PIL on this.
